Dover Youth Hockey at The Whit!
DYHA’s mini-mite and mite house league teams made their annual trip to the ‘big rink’ on Saturday when they played their weekly games at UNH’s Whittemore Center in Durham. The players, ages 4-8, were able to dress in the locker rooms and sit on the same benches as local favorites The Wildcats. All teams played their games following the cross-ice development program recently launched at DYHA, which is the first organization in the state to implement this program. The cross-ice program is based on a model of practicing and playing hockey across the ice surface as compared to practicing and playing lengthwise along the full length of the ice surface. This cross-ice practicing and playing model has been used in many of the leading hockey nations in the world for a number of years and has stood the test of time. It has been shown that children who begin their hockey training in this environment have an outstanding hockey experience. On December 19
th, New Hampshire Amateur Hockey Association, in conjunction with DYHA, will be hosting a Mite Jamboree at Dover Arena. Teams from around the state will come and experience cross-ice games first-hand.
